As I look at my son, and think about everything that’s going on in the world, I can’t help but think about how asinine some people actually are when it comes to the environment. There. I said it. Some people are just plain stupid.
And here’s why:
You can’t eat money. More on that in a minute.
There are corporations in this country (and people who support them) who are decimating the environment, all in the name of profit. Whether it’s the gas companies with fracking and burning endless amounts of fossil fuels, or chemical companies with their GMO crops and dumping fluoride into our water supply (yes, fluoride is HIGHLY toxic), it’s all the same: who cares who dies as long as we are making money. At least this is the mentality that I’m observing as I read articles in the news. I know, I know, normally I write light-heartedly about Jacob farting on my arm, but enough is enough.
I read recently that certain counties in Northern Colorado want to secede from the state and form a 51st state – Northern Colorado. So what? Who cares? I certainly don’t. It’s their reasoning that has my panties in a bunch: they’re pissed off that the rest of the state is pro gun-control and renewable energy. I’ll put it another way: They want to form their own state because they are AGAINST gun control AND clean, green energy (solar, etc…)
Climate change is a scientific fact. Dispute it all you want. Stick your head further up your own ass if you choose to, but I promise you, if we don’t do something about it, and soon, it’s going to continue to get hotter and crazier and we won’t be able to do a damn thing about it. And yet, some people still think that climate change is a joke, organic produce is a sham, and Twinkies are food. They’re not. Along those lines, you’re better off eating money.
The fact of the matter is simple: regardless of race, color or creed, human beings currently have ONE HOME, and that’s Earth. Why we keep shitting in our own living room is completely beyond me.
“But I’m just one person, what difference can I make?”
That’s stupid. If everyone just did one thing differently, that would be almost 7.1 BILLION people making a difference. “The Journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step”
There are companies and people who are making a difference every single day. We all can.
Recycle. Shop locally. Buy organic produce and food (you know, what our grandparents used to refer to as “food”). Support companies that offer sustainable products and companies that are actively trying to reduce their carbon footprint. It’s not too late.
It’s not just our children who will suffer if we don’t do something. We’re already seeing the effects of our past ignorance.
I’m ready. Are you?
